Thunderbird Colors on lost focus

Today i got crazy again while working in Thunderbird (with the default skin).
Did you ever noticed, that thunderbird looses the focus on the current email at the list, when you open another windows ? i.e. when you reply to a message, that´s very bad usability.
you can fix it like this:

Search your profile folder: i.e. C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxx.default
create a folder "chrome"
create a file "userChrome.css"
and put into it, for example:

the important thing is: the background-color of the current selected row/email.
in my example the difference is not that big, but i´m sure you know what´s to do
and you are free to change colors in this example as you need.

Facebook caching bugs me

It seems like Facebook caches the image and the description of the website - and even the URL :-(
This makes testing very difficult.

OXID and the category thing

Today i was shocked about the load time of several pages at the admin interface.
First let me say, i used a default installation of a OXID EE 4.4.4. After importing
18.000 categories, the admin interface gave me the well known error

Allowed memory size of xxx bytes exhausted

after this i set the memory_limit to 128M
the result:

after this i set the memory_limit to 512M
the result:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of [...] seconds exceeded [...]

okay, so give him more time ;)
after setting max_execution_time to 9999 (0 doesn´t work!)

it took 90 seconds to see something after a click at this areas:

- Administer Products
- Products
- Categories

and yes, as usual it has something to do with little hidden checkboxes to fix a problem like this ;)

disable the following keys, and all will be fine and fast again:

- Load complete Category Tree for Search
- Load Categories and display Category Navigation

Freedom Keyboard Pro and Android (and connectbot)

For a few days i got my Freedom Keyboard Pro.

I just wanted to test it with my HTC Desire (Android).
Because there are now beta drivers available i was pretty sure to get a comfortable way of administrating my servers while i am out of my office. As every android user should know, i am using the best ssh client available: connectbot.

and here the problems begin: the most important keys are not working:

TAB
CTRL

connectbot has a special key-mapping because it´s primary made for soft-touch-keyboards or the hardware keyboard of the phone. so while working on a server CTRL is only working for me with pressing the track-ball. that´s not really perfact at the moment but in fact you can work a lot of better and faster at your servers with ssh. the beta drivers are really beta ;) there are a lot of keys you should not press while the keyboard is connected to the phone because the driver crashes and you have to kill the keyboard-app, delete all settings and restart the connect, that´s circumstantial and needs to be fixed by the developers. at the moment i just can say: this keyboard is worth to buy but it needs a lot of improvement and the apps (like connectbot) needs to be adjusted to make working really smooth and easy without the need of touching your phone while typing.

i really hope to see improvments here, i also made a request for supporting the keyboard and i also wrote to the developers of the android drivers in hope that these both parties get connected to each other and to see a working connectbot with this keyboard in the future. if you plan to buy this keyboard or if you like connectbot like my, please support my request! ;)

GMail Conversation View for Thunderbird

nearly every thunderbird user who loves his client, starts missing a very important feature after a while.
there are many folders and one folder called "Sent" or "Sent Items".

reading a message always brings the problem:

i cannot see the whole conversation!

some emails are at the "Sent" folder, other emails of this conversation are in another folder.
that sucks!

and here´s the solution: GMail Conversation View

after installed into thunderbird drag the new button to your toolbar

then, click a massge and press "Fecth conversation".
then you will see a view like this

first tests showed me, that this addon still is beta, but if the development goes on,
i am happy to see this correct working in the future.
this is an addon i was waiting for so long.....

the addon at the mozilla addon site is not the lastest version!

Deutsche (o2 Kunden) aufgepasst: Kostenloser Faxempfang per E-Mail

Nachdem der deutsche Superstaat reguliert bis sich die Balken biegen, musste mal wieder ein kostenloser Dienst seinen Geist aufgeben: Der kostenlose Empfang von Faxen mit Hilfe einer Service-Rufnummer.

Wer einmal im Monat ein Fax bekommt, hat einfach keine Lust 3-5 Euro im Monat zu zahlen, zumindest stehen Kosten und Nutzen nicht im Verhätnis zueinander.

Dabei kann es so einfach sein: http://www.freefaxtoemail.net

Und jetzt kommt das Bonbon für o2 Kunden (vielleicht bieten andere Provider das auch an, da ich o2 Kunde bin, berichte ich natürlich über die Möglichkeiten mit o2):

Was ich selbst nicht gewusst habe: Jeder o2-Kunde besitzt bereits eine Faxnummer:

Einfach die 33 (hängt von der Vorwahl ab) zwischen Vorwahl und Rufnummer wählen:

Handynummer: 0179 1234567
Faxnummer: 0179 33 123456

weitere Infos dazu gibt es hier.

Die Faxe können dann von der Mailbox an jedes beliebige Faxgerät geschickt werden.

In Kombination mit einem ausländischen Fax2Mail Service, kann ich somit meinen Kunden eine
schöne, passende Faxnummer anbieten und gleichzeitig die Faxe kostenlos per E-Mail empfangen.

first i am sorry to say: i only found something for windows.

so if you are using vista/win7 64 and skype 4.x, (for other versions please read the forum)
here are the steps you have to do:

download this little program
close skype
make a backup of your data ( \Documents and Settings\{win username}\Application Data\Skype\{skype username}
install the correct System.Data.SQLite.DLL
download it here and replace it with the one in the program folder of this little app

i am not sure how save this is. i just can say, it´s working.
for security reason it might be usefull to wipe the empty space to make a recover/restore
more difficult. you can find some useful tools here:

finally i have found a great one, i want to mention here:

but my favorite gui still is:

hab ich schon erwähnt, dass ich nichts mehr hasse, wie leute im support, die ihr geld mit "copy&paste"
verdienen, anstatt einmal ihr hirn einzuschalten und vielleicht lesen, was der (mögliche) kunde schreibt ?
dass es viele fragen gibt, die kunden stellen, weil sie zu faul zum lesen sind, ist unbestritten.
ich bin auch oft zu faul mir die ganzen agbs durchzulesen, deswegen schreibt man gerne mal eine email.

in diesem konkreten fall, habe ich etwas gefragt, was man einfach mit "JA" oder "NEIN" beantworten hätte können:

ein einfaches "JA" oder "NEIN" hättes auch getan, aber wenn man keine ahnung von nichts hat,

was der kunde gefragt hat, es wird schon irgendwo eine antwort im text stecken, mit der der kunde
sich zufriedengeben wird. hinzu kommt, dass text-tabellen ja auch wunderbar lesbar sind. *AU!*

since i am working with oxid, i have seen a lot problems and of course a lot of solutions...
but today i read an interesting post from the dev mailinglist i want to quote here...

In all marketing slides it says "The OXID Enterprise Edition is the software which fits all your needs and will always support the growth of your business" - in our case it should say "By using the OXID Enterprise Edition you agree to adjust your business to the needs of OXID, meaning you have to reinvest to change the software everytime OXID makes changes in eShop - and best of all, by changing the development process to extreme programming OXID is able to release patches every month and updates every quarter..."

ich dachte erst, dass die DHL fahrer etwas dreist wären (1 mal klingeln, 5 sekunden warten, nochmal klingeln, 5 sekunden warten, karte in den briefkasten schmeissen und pech gehabt, paket gibt´s erst am nächsten tag, ist ja klar, ich stehe ja auch NUR den ganzen tag an der tür und warte auf meinen geliebten damit ich das blöd paket innerhalb von 10 sekunden annehmen kann *kotz*).

gestern wurde ich eines besseren belehrt:

GLS hat den vogel abgeschossen in diesem jahr: stellen mir ein paket zu indem sie:

a) das paket in einem geschäft 50 meter weiter abliefern
b) den zettel draussen an der haustür ankleben - wo jeder ihn mitnehmen kann!

gesagt getan:

freundin nimmt zettel, geht in den shop und sagt paket her, ich hole das für den herrn ab.
shop: kein problem, hier bitte.

FAZIT: jeder hätte es mitnehmen können und hätte ein nachträgliches weihnachtsgeschenk gehabt, prima GLS!

wer wirklich sicher gehen will, der sollte die packstation benutzen, da muss man nicht auf öffnungszeiten von shops rücksicht nehmen, wo das paket ja liegen könnte oder angst haben, dass es weg kommt.

Gerade weil der Support in Deutschland oft eine Katastrophe ist, vor allem im IT-Sektor, bin ich immer extrem dankbar, wenn sich jemand wirklich Zeit für die Bedürfnisse der Kunden nimmt. An dieser Stelle bedanke ich mich ganz herzlich beim Amazon "b2music Shop". Die Kollegen waren sich nicht zu schade über 20min zu helfen und Fragen aller Art zu beantworten. Da wurde gegoogelt, im Lager nachgeschaut und sogar der Preis bei Amazon gesenkt, um den Kauf etwas leichter zu gestalten ;-) Bestellt wurde ein "Samson CO3U USB Studio Mikrofon".

Dieses Verhalten ist etwas, das verstehen viele Händler nicht:

Support ist manchmal mehr als nur "blöde E-Mails" oder "dumme Fragen": Support ist manchmal der ultimative Test vor dem Kauf und ein Aushängeschild für Kompetenz, Vertrauen und Kundengewinnung......

Abgesehen vom Support, das Micro hat einen tollen Sound, auch wenn das Video hier nicht das Beste ist ;-)
